Read on to learn about South Coast Glow and its owner, Haley:

Haley is the proud owner and operator of South Coast Glow.  Haley moved to sunny Mission Viejo five years ago and never plans on leaving!  After completing her Masters in Business and working in the corporate world, Haley decided to pursue her true interests; helping others feel more confident and comfortable with their appearance through safe and natural measures.

Let’s face it, everybody looks and feels more confident with a tan but not everybody has the skin type or time to get that perfect off the beach glow.  Haley makes the perfect tan possible through the use of organically based, natural tanning products!  Though Haley believes that true beauty is on the inside, a little beauty on the outside never did hurt anyone!

“I have been seeking the perfect tan since I was a teenager but due to my fair complexion and busy schedule I was never able to achieve it. I soon realized that despite my efforts, a consistent, fresh, off-the-beach glow wasn’t possible to maintain year-round. It was then that I discovered spray tanning!

“I fell in love with spray tanning and the confidence boost it gave me. However, what I didn’t love were the product ingredients and the unprofessional, unclean conditions I was being sprayed in. This is when I realized that there are alternatives to my personal experience!  I discovered spray tanning products that focus on natural ingredients, something important to me.  It was then that I realized I can offer a clean, safe, profession spray tanning experience to others.  As a result South Coast Glow was born!”

South Coast Glow is excited to be partnering with OC Waxing to meet all of your waxing and tanning needs.

Waxing- let's cut to the chase

by 15. November 2009 15:16

Happy November everyone! I want to make this blog entry as upfront and honest about waxing as it possibly can be. There are so many assumptions, reservations and questions when it comes to anything and everything  about  waxing. I'd like to address some of these points in hopes to ease new AND repeat waxers, and this is straight from the horses... or Aestheticians mouth!

First point, you probably wonder what us waxers are thinking when we are "down there" waxing your lady parts. Please know that we have seen it all, all day, every day, so nothing you have is any different than anyone else's, nor do we judge/critique or actually even NOTICE anything on your body. What we are seeing is your hair, the way it grows, and determining what is the quickest, easiest, and least painful way to remove that hair. And when we come out of your treatment room, waxers do not discuss their clients bodies and/or "goods". We have a personal relationship with each client and we respect that relationship!

Just like we've seen it all, you also, are "not the worst". Many clients ask, "is this the most hair you've seen?" or "am i the biggest baby?" Well, no, you aren't. We have been doing this for a while, and there's always somebody that's worse. I even get the dreaded question, "is anyone really, yknow, bad?" And we both know what this means, and yes, some women can be. To prevent being one of these women, we always suggest that our ladies always take the necessary steps to freshen up before your appointments. Simple bikini wipes are always necessary to help your waxer do her job well. Whether you think you need to freshen up or not, it is a small courtesy for your waxer, and it will avoid the embarrasment of having her send you to the bathroom to clean up your front OR backside.

Like I said, we have waxed it all. But I also mean to say, that we've waxed it all! All body parts and random hairs have been waxed and tweezed. Do not be scared to ask for a weird patch to be cleaned up! From nipples, ears, nostrils, hairlines, knuckes, happytrails, backs, chins, everything! If you can grow it, we can wax it.

Another important point to make is that your waxer only has control over your skin while you are in the salon. Once you leave, you may do damage to your skin by simply neglecting cleanliness. A story I recently heard was of a woman who had been waxing for a number of years. She came to get waxed like usual, then called 5 days later complaining that the wax had given her some sort of infection. Soon to find out, her infection was traced back to her new boyfriend. He had a staph infection on one of his finernails and passed the infection to her. Your skin is extra sensitive to bacteria and infection within 24 hours of your waxing, so it is very important to always protect your lady-parts, no matter what touches it! We do our job by keeping clean supplies and not double-dipping, make sure to do your part too!

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

by 22. April 2009 07:23

Well, here are a couple important questions I hear frequently from both clients and acquaintances.

Any more questions? Feel free to email me:  info@ocwax.com

Q: My friend got waxed and said it hurt SO BAD! Why?

A: Well I would first like to say, DON’T KNOCK IT ‘TIL YOU TRY IT! Every person that gets waxed has many factors that play into their negative or positive waxing experience. First factor, your friend might have gone to a waxer that is not experienced. The waxer may have used harsh and inexpensive wax, they may not do many waxings, or they may just not LIKE doing waxing. Keep in mind many waxers are not just waxers; they also do facials, body treatments, and makeup. This is usually not their specialty and not their passion.

Second factor, Your friend also may have a higher pain tolerance than you. Even if someone can handle a pinch on the arm or getting a tattoo better than you, doesn’t mean they can handle getting waxed better than you! Everybody’s interpretation of pain is different.

I have dozens of clients tell me,

“my friend said this would hurt so bad, but this is NOT that bad, I can definitely handle this! What the heck was she talking about!”

So needless to say, I believe this is a situation that calls for everyone to really find out for themselves. However, you might be one of those girls that it DID hurt very badly.  To those people, my advice is always make sure your waxer is a waxing specialist, does not double dip her waxing sticks, loves waxing, and uses high grade waxes! If you are lost trying to find one, I think I might know of a place ;)

Q: I got waxed and my hair grew back really fast. What was wrong with my waxer? I feel like I wasted my money!

A:Well there can be 2 reasons for this. If your waxer is inexperienced, or simply just not a good waxer, she has the ability of breaking the hairs instead of pulling them out by the root. This may make hair appear the next day as if you shaved.

Most commonly though, the fact that hair grows back quickly is neither you nor your waxers fault. The hair you feel grew back so quickly is actually hair that was NOT waxed, but hair that shed itself about 4-8 weeks ago and is just now growing through the skin. Hair in any given area, all over your body, is never ALL present at the same time. Your hair EVERYWHERE grows, detached from the growth bulb, sheds itself, and regrows again. If all of your hair was on the same growth cycle, all that hair would fall out together and leave you bald at certain points in your life! So keep in mind, it is difficult to predict when your hair will fall out or grow in. But waxing can train your hair to grow together. Hair that is waxed together, grows back together. So by consistently waxing, we train most hair follicles to grow together which cuts down on break-through cycles and random growths between waxings.

Q:Waxing seems so expensive, especially right now with this economy! Do you offer any deals?

A: Waxing seems like an expensive upkeep, and to most, it is a necessity! We offer regular waxing clients a discount for their bikini waxes. Our Brazilian bikini clients start their first waxing at $60, and after this visit, if our clients keep regular waxing appointments every 4 weeks, we cut your Brazilian cost down $5 increments until we get to $45. So after 3 months, you will have less hair and more money!

Q:I will die if I have to grow out my bikini hair to get waxed, it’s so annoying! Do I have to deal with that every time I want to get waxed?

A: Remember that when you are growing out your hair for your first bikini, playboy, French or Brazilian waxing, you are growing out all of your bikini hair that is present in that area, which is about 70% (some hair has shed itself and isn’t presently growing). This present hair has been shaved or trimmed and is coarse, scratchy, thick, and just down right annoying! If you can grow this out, get it waxed, and keep up with regular waxing visits, your bikini area will never feel like that ever again. The hair that grows back for your next waxing visit in about 3-4 weeks, will only be ONE cycle of hair- which is 10% of your hair, NOT 70%.  Imagine growing out only 10% of your hair, it’s so much softer, sparse, thin and manageable! I can guarantee you that regular waxing visits leave you NEVER having to deal with that initial growth annoyance EVER again!

Are Your Underarms Still Dark After Shaving?

by 4. February 2009 09:34

Many women have an ongoing insecurity with their underarm hair. Actually, nearly every woman I know does! I am asked the same question quite often,

“Even though I shave, why does my underarm still look dark?”

First off, this can be caused by a few different reasons:

1) the deodorant you use, or

2) dead skin cells.

Sometimes chemicals in deodorant react adversely to your skin creating a pigmentation problem. If this is the case, simply switching your deodorant should fix this problem in 4-6 weeks. Also, dead skin cells may build up in your underarm pores causing a shadow. Regular exfoliation of your underarm can lighten this problem by cleaning out follicles that contain dead skin cells.

However, most commonly, this underarm discoloration can be caused by your method of hair removal. When underarm hair is removed by shaving, the hairs are cut flush with your skin. Because your skin is a bit translucent, these cut strands of hair that lie just at the surface of the skin can leave behind the illusion of a dark shadow, especially if you have very light skin and dark hairs. Waxing removes the entire hair follicle, therefore, there are no longer dark hairs that can be seen through the top layers of skin. Your skin is left lighter and not to mention smooth for weeks!

Nail Shop Waxings

by 30. November 2008 08:14

I know, I know, most people don’t think it is a big deal to get waxed at a nail salon. Most clients, friends or acquaintances have said things to me like “oh it’s just a small area like my lip or eyebrow” or “it’s easier to get it done while I’m getting my nails done”. But lets just ask ourselves some questions:

1. does the waxer/nail technician have you fill out any health history form for your skin?

2. does she ask you what skin care products you are using or if you are using any skin-thinning agents that might cause tearing of the skin or rashes (such as retin-a, proactive, accutane, obagi, avage etc.)?

3. does she double-dip her wax stick into the wax pot?

4. if there is no wax pot, does she use a tube of wax with a roller-applicator on the end? How many people before you have had that roller run across their skin?

5. would you classify skin care and nail care as the same thing?

The nail salons are notorious for being very unclean when it comes to waxing (not to mention the insensitivity to privacy when they wax your upper lip in front of everyone! I’ve been there, how awkward!)

My feeling is that your skin is your number 1 friend for the rest of your life. It is your protector and your beauty, so I believe we should treat it with the utmost care and cleanliness. Your skin is the first thing people see, especially the skin on your face! Skin Care Therapists (or Aestheticians) are trained specifically in skin care and waxing. We are knowledgeable of the structure of the face and how it relates to your eyebrows and brow bone as well. A lot of thought and care goes into a good eyebrow wax. Spend the time to make an appointment with a professional to take care of your skin and brows the right, healthy way. It’s not always convenient, but your health and gorgeous skin is worth it!!!

WHY would I wax in the winter?

by 24. November 2008 21:53

Why the heck would anyone want to wax in the winter? You're not in a swimsuit, or shorts, or tank tops!! You have pants and long sleeves on all the time!! These are great excuses to avoid waxing in winter, unless you are a loyal waxer like some clients of mine , however let me explain why waxing is a great decision all year 'round..... ESPECIALLY during winter time...

First understand that your hair grows in cycles. All hair grows and eventually detaches from the follicle and sheds itself. So, a result of this is never having ALL of your hair present on any part of your body, at any given time. A person typically has only 40-50% of hair present. If all of your hair was on the same growth cycle, you would be bald at certain times from all of your hair shedding at the same time! Now knowing this, when you wax for the first time, you will wax all hair that is present (which is typically 40-50%) and be left smooth and hairless. After this waxing, you will see growth of hair usually around 3-4 weeks. This initial growth is hair that was not waxed at your last waxing appointment. This is a cycle of hair that shed some time ago, and is now going through it's own cycle once again. Each cycle contains usually about 10% of your overall hair in that area.

Usually when a person shaves, their hair cycles are going crazy! There are many many cycles (between 7-10) and they tend to grow rapidly. When you begin to wax, you slow down and overlap these cycles. You can also even damage a good portion of follicles so they no longer grow. Waxing, in a sense, trains your hair follicles to grow together in only a few cycles. Once you give yourself a few initial waxing visits to wax ALL hair cycles that grow in that specific area, you will see decreased hair growth and increased bald-time time in-between visits!

The reason it is great to jump on the waxing bandwagon this winter is that you are NOT pressured to be in a swimsuit at any given moment. You can get your hair cycles grown and waxed and get on a regular waxing regimen without pressure to possibly shave. You are more apt to not shave the random growth cycles that peek through between your initial waxing visits because no one is calling you saying,

"Hey! Let's go to the beach!".  and you think, "Shoot, I gotta shave!"

When summer comes around, you will have had 6 months of waxing under your belt! All hair follicles have been significantly damaged and hair cycles are widdled down to 3 to 4 instead of 7 to 10! Every client I see on a regular basis has significantly diminished hair growth after 6 months. Hair cycles are sparse, thinner, slower and lighter. Imagine having such hair by summertime! Start waxing now and you can!

Also, keep in mind that regular waxing appointments are when you wax each cycle that comes through, which is initially every 3-4 weeks (which eventually extends). So after that first wax of 40-50% of your hair, each next visit is just waxing one or two growth cycles. This is only 10-20% of the hair in that area so every waxing visit gets dramatically easier and less painful.

Cheers!
